Mobile Handyman & General Maintenance Technician

Job description:

OneContact Maintenance Services, a boutique building-maintenance multi-trade company, is seeking a reliable, energetic, and versatile Mobile Handyman & General Maintenance Technician to join our team. We require a highly productive and motivated individual with a can-do attitude to undertake a variety of handyman repairs and general maintenance jobs in a safe and consistent manner. This position offers flexibility, variety, and a positive working environment!

We are looking for a reliable all-around individual with solid technical skills who can perform general handyman/general maintenance tasks in the commercial and residential buildings we service.

To be successful in this role you will need solid integrity, strong organizational and excellent communication skills. Applicants must have a positive attitude and be passionate about continuously delivering high-quality results. At least three years of proven hands-on experience working in a building maintenance and renovation environment is highly desirable. Friendliness and professional appearance are required. Experience estimating repair and renovation jobs is definitively an asset.

Applicants must have well-rounded interior and exterior maintenance experience and be able to both respond quickly and attend to a variety of property handyman repairs. Typical scopes of work can include:

  • Plumbing – Basic plumbing, installation, and repair of toilets, sinks, faucets, valves, solder pipes, run power auger to clear blocked lines.
  • Electrical – Installation and troubleshooting of light fixtures, ballasts, switches and receptacles.
  • Drywall – Framing installation/repair, drywall installation/repair.
  • General Carpentry – Repair or construction of fences, decks, and gates.
  • Painting and finishes – Cleaning, sanding, priming, painting, textured surfaces.
  • Tiles – Tub surround and backsplash installation/repair.
  • Floors – Replace subfloor, laminate/carpet/tile repair and/or replace, baseboard installation/repair.
  • Doors/Windows/cabinets – Repair/replace closet doors, interior doors, and frames, exterior doors and frames, repair/replace window coverings/locks/hardware, passage/lockset installation/repair, cabinets repair/replace.
  • Countertops – All areas of repair, replace countertops.
  • Locks – All aspects of repair/replace and rekey.
  • Appliance repair/installation.
  • Basic boiler/heating and furnace maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To carry out maintenance and repair duties adhering to safe work practices and procedures.
  • To interface with the client, assess the job that needs to be done, and complete it in a timely and efficient manner.
  • To complete all routine and preventative maintenance work orders within scheduled timelines.
  • To comply with all fire, health, and safety regulations.
  • To help maintain all assigned buildings, suites, equipment, and grounds.
  • To respond to maintenance-related emergencies with efficiency and confidence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Requirements:

  • Must possess at least three (3) years of proven work experience in commercial and office/home repairs and improvements.
  • Must be able to work well independently with minimal supervision, or as part of a team.
  • Must be productive, able to prioritize work, and adhere to project schedules.
  • Must be punctual, highly organized, and work well under pressure.
  • Possess strong health and safety mindset. (E.g., building codes, by-laws, health & safety specifications; and client’s policies and procedures.)
  • Communicate with the dispatcher for assignments, and consistently update our work-order management system (e.g., hours, materials, and equipment used per job site).
  • Proficient with smartphones/tablets, solid working knowledge of hand and power tools, and power equipment operations.
  • Fluent English oral and written communication.

Other Requirements:

  • Transportation: Own a reliable and appropriate vehicle.
  • Own hand and power tools, and a smartphone.
  • Valid Alberta Drivers License with clean drivers abstract. No criminal record.
  • High level of energy and enthusiasm, and be physically able to lift, push/pull and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • A valid 5th class power engineering certificate is considered a nice-to-have asset.
  • A journeyman plumber certification is considered a nice-to-have asset.

Terms and Conditions:

  • This is a full-time, permanent position.

  • Compensation is competitive and based on the level of real experience and skills.

  • Provide two (2) work references.
  • Be bondable and pass a Police/criminal background check before being hired. Police Information Check (PIC) and Vulnerable Sector Search will be required.
